Key Responsibilities

Oversee Public Affairs Department

Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Public Affairs department, including managing staff and delegating responsibilities as needed.

Manage Media Relations

Manage media relations, including pitching stories to national media outlets and serving as the primary media contact for the association.

Develop and Execute Communications Plans

Develop and execute communications plans that promote the association's interests and reputation.

Provide External Communications Counsel

Provide external communications counsel to the association's leadership, including the President and CEO and the Chairman of the Board.

Manage Budget and Vendors

Manage the budget for the Public Affairs department and negotiate and review contracts with external vendors.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications or Related Field

A bachelor's degree in communications or a related field is required.

7+ Years of Experience in Public Relations or Communications

7+ years of experience in public relations or communications is required, with a minimum of 2 years in a management role.

Rental Housing Industry Experience

Rental housing industry experience is strongly preferred.

Strong Leadership and Supervisory Skills

Strong leadership and supervisory skills are required, with the ability to manage and prioritize competing projects.

Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, with the ability to work with all levels of organization staff.

Working Conditions

This is a hybrid-remote position, with at least two days required per week in our Arlington, VA office. Candidates must be located within a 50-mile radius of Arlington, VA or be willing to relocate.
