Café Team Member - Tyler's Grill SUMMARY:
The Café Team Member is an entry-level role within the café team.

This position requires adaptability and involves both front-of-house and back-of-house tasks: preparing and cooking high-quality meals; assisting in front-of-house operations as needed; ensuring food quality, sanitation, and safety standards; and delivering outstanding customer service.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
In the designated unit, this role may encompass some or all of the following:
Front-of-House

Engages in front-of-house responsibilities including, but not limited to: point-of-sale (cash register) operations; beverage and food preparation; order taking; and general customer interaction.

Back-of-House
Prepares and cooks meals by adhering to established recipes, dietary restrictions, or portion sizes.
Handles, cuts, and cooks all food items as assigned, including proteins, starches, and vegetables.
Prepares appropriate garnishes; decorates dishes.
Maintains cleanliness and organization of kitchen equipment, appliances, and workspaces to ensure proper functionality.
Operates kitchen equipment and machinery following established safety protocols.
Safely incorporates unused food into future meal preparations.

Labels and dates all opened food products and adheres to food safety guidelines for storage.

Sets up serving lines and ensures an adequate supply of food items according to the daily menu for the entire service period.

Monitors and records temperatures of food stored in refrigeration, hot boxes, and on the serving line to ensure safe temperatures.

Conducts food sampling for quality assurance.
Assists in forecasting and monitoring recipe accuracy; communicates discrepancies to management.
Additional Duties
Maintains clean and organized stock rooms and back-of-house areas.
Ensures cleanliness and organization of all equipment, serving lines, and seating areas according to established protocols.
Trains new employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

This role requires extended periods of standing and walking, along with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., in environments that may be hot, humid, or cold.

Must be able to safely utilize and operate standard kitchen tools and equipment. Must be capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions, as needed.

Individuals aged 16 and 17 are restricted from operating hazardous equipment, such as commercial mixers and power-driven bakery machines.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic understanding of culinary techniques and practices.
Knowledge of quantity food production principles and safe food handling practices.
Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software.
Proficient in the efficient and accurate operation of point-of-sale systems.
Effective time management skills to complete tasks.
Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.
Capacity to demonstrate flexibility and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
Ability to provide exceptional customer service.
Ability to monitor and uphold quality control standards.
Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
At least 1 year of experience in cooking/cold food preparation and cashiering.
Safe food handler certification preferred, or certification to be obtained within one year of hire. (This is contingent upon the assigned unit.)

WORK HOURS:
Full-time, non-exempt position.
Sunday through Thursday 1:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.; 8 hrs./day, 40 hrs./week.

This position is designated as essential personnel and, during inclement weather and emergency situations, is required to be available as needed.


SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 1 (Hourly rate starting at $15.00 per hour)
