Orthopedic Physician Assistant Position

Role Overview:


The Physician Assistant will deliver direct patient care and assist in surgical procedures in accordance with state regulations and under the supervision of a physician or Medical Director. This role includes the coordination of treatment plans and management of preoperative and postoperative care.

In collaboration with the supervising physician, the PA will develop a comprehensive care plan and work with the healthcare team to ensure high-quality patient care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough physical examinations and gather medical histories to implement treatment plans for both new and established patients.
  • Order necessary diagnostic tests as required.
  • Educate patients and their families about treatment plans and medications.
  • Consult with supervising physicians to evaluate patient conditions and treatment options.
  • Ensure timely completion of medical documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and continuity of care between patient visits.
  • Deliver follow-up care in accordance with established practice guidelines.
  • Perform preoperative assessments and confirm that all required documentation is complete.
  • Evaluate patient compliance with physical, emotional, and social admission criteria.
  • Notify the Medical Director or attending physician if a patient is not suitable for outpatient treatment.
  • Confirm that all necessary medical clearances and diagnostic tests are performed and documented.
  • Support patients and families by explaining the perioperative process and their responsibilities.
  • Coordinate surgical schedules considering patient needs when necessary.
  • Operate within the scope of specific privileges granted by the governing body and delegated by the Medical Director.
  • Document orders and considerations as specified by the surgeon.
  • Monitor patients and administer medications following facility policies.
  • Engage in preoperative activities as per facility guidelines.
  • Assist medical and office staff as needed.
  • Exhibit strong customer service and communication skills.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program is required.
  • Must maintain continuing education units (CEUs) relevant to clinical practice as per licensure requirements.
  • BLS Certification is mandatory.
  • Preferred experience of 2 years in a similar role; orthopedic experience is highly valued, though new graduates are encouraged to apply.
