Heavy Equipment Mechanic Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in Manassas, VA. As a leading supplier of heavy equipment in the Mid-Atlantic region, we offer a wide range of services including rental, sales, maintenance, and repair for heavy equipment used in excavation, crushing, lifting, hauling, and more.

Our equipment includes track loaders, excavators, bulldozers, various lifts, compactors, demolition equipment, gas/diesel engines, and more.

Responsibilities:
  • Repair heavy equipment in the field and in the shop, ensuring timely and efficient service.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions for electrical, engine, transmission, brakes, steering, frame, cab, and hydraulic systems.
  • Rebuild gas and diesel engines and major driveline components, maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with customers on problems and costs required to repair units/equipment.
  • Order necessary parts to repair units and follow up with the parts department on backorders.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments on fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, clutches, filters, and oil.
  • Submit paperwork in a timely manner, including daily notes, timecards, tech-line reports, expense reports, and warranty parts.
  • Maintain service trucks by filling out daily inspection reports.
  • Operate and use a variety of hand tools, ensuring proper usage and maintenance.
  • Read and understand manuals and schematics, applying knowledge to repair work.
  • Communicate with other mechanics about repair work, ensuring seamless collaboration.
  • Use repair management software to record maintenance records.
Working Environment:
  • Lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant finger dexterity necessary.
  • Ability to lift 70 lbs.
  • Ability to operate a forklift safely.
  • This position is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels.
  • This job requires the ability to obtain a DOT Medical Certification.
  • Requires working and driving outdoors in various climates/temperatures and the possibility of sitting for an extended period.
Requirements:
  • Must have a valid DL, clean motor vehicle record, and be able to pass a drug screen, background check, functional capacity test, and DOT physical.
  • High School diploma; Trade School (2-year degree) preferred.
  • Continuing education with verifiable credits from Manufacturer's technical schools or training programs.
  • Must be able to successfully hold certifications for MSHA, First Aid/CPR, etc.
