Anesthesia Technologist II, KSMC

As a key member of the healthcare team at Kaiser Permanente, the Anesthesia Technologist II, KSMC plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting anesthesia providers with equipment preparation and maintenance, allowing them to focus on direct patient care. This role also involves monitoring and maintaining anesthesia machines and related equipment, as well as performing routine preventive maintenance checks.
In addition to technical skills, the ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to teamwork, customer satisfaction, and population-based care. They will be able to work independently, prioritize activities, and maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Practice standards of performance.
- Assist with setup and operation of rapid infuser.
- Demonstrate positive interaction with the public, employees, supervisors, and clinicians/providers.
- Presents a professional appearance and calming approach with patients and staff.
- Handles patient and employee information with appropriate sensitivity and safeguarding.
- Uses effective communication skills to minimize conflict and/or address difficult situations.
- Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily activities.
- Actively participates in safety and infection control program and activities.
- Complies with Kaiser's Time Keeping Policy.
- Reports to work as scheduled and on time.
- Monitors and takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences.
- Responds to all Code Blue when Anesthesia is involved.
Supplies and Equipment Daily Routine:
The Anesthesia Technologist II, KSMC will be responsible for:
- Monitoring and maintaining anesthesia machines and related equipment.
- Assembling and organizing equipment as needed by the anesthesia staff provider.
- Applying monitoring devices to patients and operating all common physiological monitors.
- Maintaining adequate workroom and anesthesia machine supply inventory.
- Keeping the anesthesia workroom neat, clean, and orderly.
- Decontaminating and cleaning supplies and equipment according to pre-established routines.
- Performing routine preventive maintenance checks on all equipment.
- Handling and disposing of contaminated equipment following established protocols.
- Checking soda lime canisters daily and changing soda lime as necessary.
- Tags and processes any equipment needing repairs.
- Researches, establishes, and maintains inventory of special supplies purchased by the Anesthesia Department.
- Performs and records Nitrous testing on all anesthesia machines.
- Checks and replaces O2 tanks, Nitrous tanks, and air tanks.
- Performs V I-STAT or similar equipment and Glucometer calibrations as needed by site.
- Performs tasks as requested by anesthesia on I-Stat, Glucometer.
- Assists with regional blocks and lines as requested.
Support and Educational Activities:
The Anesthesia Technologist II, KSMC will be responsible for:
- Attending and constructively participating in scheduled department in-service programs and staff meetings.
- Demonstrating awareness of new information posted in the department communication notebook.
- Participating in continuing education.
- Promoting age-specific and culturally sensitive care across the surgical continuum.
- Supporting and participating in the orientation experience of new employees and students.
Special Assignments and Projects:
The Anesthesia Technologist II, KSMC may be assigned to:
- Complete special projects and assignments as directed by the Chief Anesthetist and/or their designated representative.
- Assist anesthesia personnel in setup of arterial or central lines.
- Assist in setup and operate cell saver devices.
- Perform daily QI on all machines related to anesthesia and result reporting.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Knowledge of hospital and clinic settings with OR knowledge preferred.
- Ability to comprehend and carry out hospital policies and procedures.
- Ability to work in stressful situations and respond rapidly to requests.
- Epic Healthconnect use and knowledge of patient order placement.
Basic Qualifications:
The Anesthesia Technologist II, KSMC must:
- Be a graduate of an accredited program in Anesthesia Technology with an AS degree or certified by the American Society of Technologists and Technicians (ASATT).
- Have a high school graduate.
- Hold a valid American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians - Technician certification within 3 months of hire or American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians - Technologist certification within 3 months of hire.
- Obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 6 months of hire.
- Hold Basic Life Support certification at hire.
Additional Requirements:
The Anesthesia Technologist II, KSMC must be able to:
- Cover call and/or work weekend shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Two (2) - three (3) years of anesthesia tech experience.
- Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Basic hygiene concepts.
- Good body mechanics and safe lifting techniques.
- Independent worker able to prioritize activities and work quickly, self-motivated.
- Knowledge and understanding of sterile technique.
- Good listening skills.
