We are seeking an experienced High School Science Educator to join our team at Uncommon Schools. As a key member of our educational community, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional science education to students in grades K-12.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and a passion for teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.

Job Summary

As a High School Science Educator, you will:

  • Design and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the needs of all learners
  • Develop and facilitate student-led discourse, promoting critical thinking and scientific inquiry
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance academic and extracurricular programs
  • Analyze student progress, identifying areas of improvement and developing targeted interventions
Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

Instruction
  • Teach a range of science subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental sciences, to prepare students for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate-level coursework
  • Develop students' skills in questioning, modeling, constructing explanations, data analysis, argumentation, and planning and conducting interactive labs
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that fosters student confidence and encourages scientific discourse
  • Foster student-led inquiry into various scientific topics, engaging students in lab and project-based performance tasks
Data Analysis
  • Meet regularly with school administrators and instructional coaches to analyze student work samples and assessments, informing instruction and driving student growth
  • Learn and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for diverse learners, ensuring all students receive a high-quality education
School Culture
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, prioritizing communication and collaboration
  • Engage in professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions to enhance teaching practices
  • Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to promote community, model core values, and encourage student achievement
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools and a passion for urban education
  • Show a proven track record of supporting students' social-emotional and academic development
  • Earn a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with a focus on STEM fields or related disciplines
  • Meet New Jersey state certification eligibility requirements or obtain certification within a reasonable timeframe after beginning employment
