Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Dental Hygienist to join our team at Uphams Corner Health Center. As a key member of our dental care team, you will be responsible for providing quality dental care and associated services to patients under the general supervision of a dentist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide initial interviews with new patients, obtain required information on personal, medical, and dental histories, and responsible for recall of patients.
  • Deliver direct patient care according to procedures, perform periodontal charting, cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants, fluorides, and other routine procedures.
  • Provide chair-side assistance to the dentist in the performance of special tests, procedures, and complex treatment.
  • Make impressions of patients' teeth for study casts, develop and implement individualized dental care plans, and perform patient education, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
  • Document dental history of chief complaint, record and report pertinent observations and patients' reactions to dental staff as appropriate, and assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment.
  • Analyze records in terms of protocols and state and federal regulations, set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation according to established regulations and guidelines, and participate in quality improvement projects.
  • Evaluate patient schedules daily, work closely with front desk staff to ensure appointments are filled, and assist with infection control and sterilization, and prepare patient treatment rooms.
  • Perform all delegable tasks under the supervision of the dentist, as outlined by the Massachusetts Board of Dentistry, meet with the dentist to review problem cases or unusual situations concerning patients, and refer patients needing further restorative work or care to the dentist.
Requirements
  • Completed two years of training at an accredited dental hygiene school.
  • Appropriate academic training and license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Up to one year of experience to acquire position proficiency, and limited license dentist is acceptable.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment, with frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
