Dental Hygienist

Uphams Corner Health Center is seeking a skilled Dental Hygienist to provide quality dental care and associated services to patients under the general supervision of a dentist and using established dental hygiene procedures.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide initial interview with new patients, obtain required information on personal, medical, and dental histories.
- Responsible for recall of patients.
- Delivers direct patient care according to procedures; performs periodontal charting, cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants, fluorides, and other routine procedures.
- Provides chair-side assistance to dentist in the performance of special tests, procedures, and complex treatment.
- Makes impression of patient's teeth for study casts.
- Develops and implements individualized dental care plans to patients.
- Performs patient education, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
- Documents dental history of chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient's reactions to dental staff as appropriate.
- Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during the treatment of patients.
- Analyzes records in terms of protocols and state and federal regulations.
- Ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance to established regulations and guidelines.
- Involved in Center's patient quality and safety practices.
- Participates in QI projects.
- Evaluates patient schedule daily and works closely with front desk staff to make sure appointments are filled.
- Assists with infection control and sterilization, and prepares patient treatment rooms.
- Performs all delegable tasks under the supervision of the dentist, as outlined by the Massachusetts Board of Dentistry.
- Meet with dentist and review any problem cases or unusual situations concerning patients.
- Refer patients needing further restorative work or care to dentist.
- May substitute for other staff members, if needed.
- Insure patient's charts and records are complete and accurate.
- May give nutritional counseling and refer to nutritionist.
- May prepare prior approvals.
- May provide training and education for in-house staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Work requires a broad knowledge of dental terminology and procedures.
- Completed two years training at an accredited dental hygiene school.
- Appropriate academic training.
- License from Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Up to one year experience to acquire position proficiency.
- Limited License Dentist is acceptable.
