Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Mechanic
Position Overview:
The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic is accountable for the operation, repair, and upkeep of various building mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves handling heavy equipment and may require working in extreme temperature conditions. The technician will respond to service requests, promptly addressing emergencies and system failures, while supervising assigned utility mechanics and overseeing routine maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct operation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and control systems, including air handling units, pumps, and motors.
- Install and maintain electrical circuits.
- Repair restroom fixtures and plumbing systems, including soldering and threading pipes.
- Safely drain and isolate systems for necessary repairs.
- Perform minor carpentry work, such as replacing ceiling tiles and repairing door hardware.
- Execute basic electrical tasks, including bulb and ballast replacements.
- Maintain optimal performance of air handling units by cleaning coils.
- Assemble and maintain chilled and hot water systems.
- Regularly inspect and operate emergency generators and their components.
- Order materials required for maintenance tasks.
- Carry out routine and preventive maintenance, including filter changes and lubrication.
- Inspect and document the condition of mechanical and electrical systems, reporting findings to supervisors.
- Perform additional duties as required within the scope of the position.
Qualifications:
- Certification in relevant mechanical trades or completion of a trade school program in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or related fields.
- A minimum of five years of experience with central plant equipment and building systems.
- Proven skills in repairing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to safely secure systems for maintenance work.
- Experience in soldering and threading pipes.
- Basic carpentry skills are essential.
- Strong understanding of building auxiliary systems, including fire safety and emergency generators.
- Familiarity with general building systems, such as vertical lifts and overhead doors.
- Valid driver's license and capability to operate vehicles as needed.
- Knowledge of safe work practices in maintenance operations.
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces.
- Proficient in using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Work Schedule: Day Shift, Monday through Friday
