Position Overview: Zurich is looking for a Construction Casualty Underwriter at either Level II or Senior Level III for our Commercial Insurance division. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring in-office presence two days a week.
Role Responsibilities: As a Construction Casualty Underwriter, you will leverage your marketing and analytical expertise to assess and underwrite both new and renewal business. Operating under general supervision, you will apply The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within your delegated authority, particularly on complex assignments, ensuring exceptional service delivery to our clients.
Key Accountabilities:
- Implement and oversee underwriting standards, guidelines, and regulatory compliance.
- Foster and sustain relationships with Line of Business representatives and other relevant stakeholders.
- Build and maintain partnerships with distributors (agents & brokers) to enhance business retention and acquisition, while addressing their insurance needs.
- Support the organization's sales culture by acting as a resource for agents, brokers, and clients.
- Actively pursue renewal and new business opportunities.
- Conduct thorough opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth prospects.
- Evaluate accounts to align with the organization's risk appetite while ensuring sound business decisions.
- Engage in broker/customer visits with a clear and strategic purpose.
Basic Qualifications for Level II:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with a minimum of 3 years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with at least 6 years in Claims or Underwriting Support, or
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1 year in Underwriting or Market Facing roles, or
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4 years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
Basic Qualifications for Senior Level III:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5 years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10 years in Claims or Underwriting Support, or
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3 years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles, or
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8 years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Technical proficiency in commercial Construction Casualty Underwriting.
- Established relationships with brokers in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
- Sales-oriented mindset.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
