Sales Tax Technician

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Sales Tax Technician to join our Finance team at the City of Aspen. As a Sales Tax Technician, you will be responsible for performing a variety of entry-level accounting duties related to sales, lodging, and use tax accounts, monitoring and posting to business license accounts, cash receipting, vendor set-ups, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to customer tax and license inquiries and process limited paper filings.
  • Prepare monthly delinquency reports and/or summons requests for non-payers.
  • Assist tax auditor with reports and information.
  • Maintain tax/business license database and update account information.
  • Review and approve Real Estate Transfer Tax (RETT) applications and process payments and refer exemptions to appropriate approval process and then process documents.
  • Review and take action to post or resolve insufficient funds and return charges on the City's bank accounts.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field.
  • One year of experience with accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, or administrative duties.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook Email, Excel, 10-key, and a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.
