Maintenance Associate Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Maintenance Associate to join our team at the Metro YMCA of the Oranges. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning and sanitizing facilities, to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our members and staff.
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance of equipment, including HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify and address any maintenance needs.
  • Work effectively with outside contractors to ensure timely and professional completion of projects.
  • Manage facility-based supply requests and inventory.
  • Perform regular pool checks and serve as backup pool operator as needed.
  • Record and report all maintenance requests and updates to Branch Executive and Sr. Facilities Director.
  • Ensure YMCA building and property is secure and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or equivalent required; college degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Five years or more in general maintenance or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  • Understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • HVAC experience; Black Seal preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator certification must be obtained in first 6 months of employment.
  • EPA Certification preferred (Type I & II or Universal).
Physical Demands:
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Ability to safely work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to, the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining space; underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; lying on stomach and/or back.
