About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Housing Specialist I to join our team at St. Vincent de Paul CARES. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in providing direct services to enable eligible clients to locate affordable, safe, and sanitary housing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and Engage Landlords: Develop relationships with property owners and managers to create a sufficient affordable housing stock for our Rapid Re-Housing program.
  • Assist Clients in Housing Search: Help eligible families locate and rent suitable housing, computing and preparing financing arrangements, and monitoring owner/tenant compliance with standards.
  • Maintain Client Linkage: Establish and maintain connections between our agency, landlords, and clients to ensure seamless support services.
  • Develop and Maintain Housing Database: Create and update a database/listing of available housing stock for clients, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Coordinate Housing Inspections: Arrange and perform housing inspections to ensure compliance with standards and safety regulations.
  • Make Referrals and Investigate Complaints: Refer clients to relevant agencies and departments for assistance and investigate tenant and owner complaints, conducting follow-up visits as needed.
  • Collect and Maintain Client Records: Gather and maintain accurate client records, including documentation and statistical data, in accordance with St. Vincent de Paul CARES and program funder requirements.
  • Network and Collaborate: Establish relationships with other agencies and organizations, representing our agency at community functions, and participating in public speaking and presentations as directed by the Program Manager.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in social work or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience serving homeless or at-risk families and/or individuals in crisis.
  • Skills and Abilities: Possess basic computer skills, excellent communication and listening skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must be sensitive to and respect cultural diversity, and able to work with diverse racial, ethnic, and economic groups.
  • Language and Cultural Competence: Able to speak, write, and understand English, with a commitment to serving all people with respect and compassion.
