Position Overview:

The Director of Student Support Services and Operations will lead the development and implementation of student support initiatives, ensuring that all students receive the necessary resources and services to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This role will oversee mental health, special education, and behavior intervention services, collaborating with school and regional leadership to build a unified approach to student support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership and Vision:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive vision for student support services, aligning with KIPP Kansas City's mission and goals.
    • Collaborate with senior leaders to integrate student support priorities across the organization.
    • Build partnerships with external organizations to enhance student access to resources, including mental health services, community support programs, and specialized education services.
    • Lead strategic planning and resource allocation for student support services, developing a sustainable budget and growth plan.
  • Program Oversight and Development:
    • Develop protocols and systems for effective student transition planning, including postsecondary readiness.
    • Special Education: Oversee the delivery of high-quality special education services across all schools, ensuring compliance with IEPs, federal/state regulations, and best practices.
    • Mental Health and Wellness: Direct the provision of effective mental health programs, social-emotional learning initiatives, and family engagement.
    • Behavioral Support: Develop a multi-tiered system of behavior intervention, coordinating with school teams to support students requiring various levels of behavioral intervention.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Recruit, hire, and support a high-performing team to deliver student support services, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability.
    • Provide direct support and mentorship to team members, ensuring effective leadership across specialized teams.
    • Conduct regular evaluations and growth planning for team members, promoting team collaboration with principals, assistant principals, and instructional coaches.
    • Lead the organization in understanding and implementing best practices in student support, staying current with research, policies, and innovations in the field.
  • Compliance and Data-Driven Decision Making:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including IDEA, Section 504, and ADA.
    • Utilize data to track progress on student support goals, regularly reviewing outcomes with school leadership and adjusting strategies to address emerging needs.
    • Maintain consistent documentation and reporting systems to monitor student outcomes and ensure compliance.
  • Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration:
    • Serve as the primary liaison with families, external agencies, and community partners, ensuring that services are accessible and responsive to student and family needs.
    • Communicate regularly with families to provide updates on services and engage them as partners in their child's development and well-being.
    • Partner with school-based staff to ensure effective delivery of support services, organizing professional development for teachers and staff around key student support topics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or related field.
  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
  • 5+ years in student support services, including at least 3 years in a leadership role, with experience in special education, mental health, or similar areas.
  • Administrative licensure preferred.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 per year
