About the RoleThe ASC Nurse, Pre-Op, Post-Op performs nursing functions according to the sequential steps of the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. This role is responsible for providing nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures in our freestanding ambulatory surgery unit.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in maintaining a culture that aligns with our Service and Behavioral Standards Handbook.
- Provide nursing care according to the nursing process, including assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
- Prepare the unit for the day, including opening, cleaning, and restocking.
- Assist with medication and equipment preparation for patient care.
- Admit patients to the procedure room or post-operative area, assess and document patient status, and complete physician orders.
- Monitor and assess patient condition throughout the procedure and post-operative period.
- Provide instructions, information, and counseling to patients and their families as needed.
- Assist in all areas as needed to balance workload and ensure quality patient care.
- Continuously improve the quality of care through education and self-evaluation.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new employees.
- Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing.
- Current unencumbered State of Oregon license as a Registered Nurse.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- Current CPR certification, ACLS or ability to obtain ACLS within 6 months of hire date.
- 3+ years of experience with at least 2 years of experience in critical care, PACU, or Medical Surgical Nursing.
- Current PALS certification.
- Ability to manage emergency situations in a calm and confident manner.
- Demonstrated flexibility and leadership with unscheduled procedure changes.
- Evidence of working knowledge of the nursing process.
- Knowledge of basic clinical skills to provide patient care.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of peri-operative nursing care in the freestanding ambulatory surgery unit.
- Demonstrated knowledge of pre and post-operative equipment usage and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work well with providers, clinical staff, and patients.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a busy, fast-paced environment while maintaining quality of work.
This role is exposed to patient and environmental conditions, and some unpleasant sights, smells, and contagious diseases.
