Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician I to join our team at the NC Department of Transportation. As an Engineering Technician I, you will play a critical role in supporting our engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform technical duties, including inspection for compliance with contract documents, standards, and specifications, testing of materials, review of plans, analysis of engineering-related data, and construction surveying/layout.
  • Compose diaries of project operations, complete various material reports, perform construction calculations, document pay records, and computer/iPad entry.
  • Assist in all aspects of office engineering and assist the Resident Engineer.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad, and software.
  • Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
