REPORTS TO: Housekeeping Manager

For over 40 years, Family House has served as a supportive "home away from home" for patients and their families who travel to Pittsburgh for medical treatment.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Housekeeping Department is essential to our organization’s success by ensuring a clean and safe atmosphere for our guests. A Cleaning and Laundry Specialist will frequently engage with guests, providing exceptional customer service to enhance their experience. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness in guest rooms and common areas while adhering to established cleanliness standards. The laundry duties encompass washing, drying, folding, and delivering linens and towels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Housekeeping Duties
  • Uphold the Family House Guest Standards and apply them consistently.
  • Thoroughly clean assigned guest rooms and bathrooms, including special cleaning tasks and linen management.
  • Maintain cleanliness in public areas, lounges, laundry facilities, and hallways according to established guidelines.
  • Protect guest property by observing necessary precautions.
  • Secure and manage keys and supplies responsibly.
  • Keep the work environment organized and clean, including housekeeping carts and storage areas.
  • Communicate regularly with the Housekeeping Manager regarding daily tasks and progress.
  • Report safety concerns, theft, and maintenance issues to the Housekeeping Manager or supervisor.
  • Respond to guest requests and issues to ensure satisfaction.
  • Maintain all cleaning equipment and ensure proper storage after use.
  • Deliver customer service that aligns with the Family House Mission.
  • Be prepared to assist with laundry duties as needed.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as required.
Laundry Responsibilities
  • Wash, dry, and fold all linens and towels efficiently.
  • Utilize cleaning agents and equipment correctly for optimal results.
  • Maintain cleanliness of laundry equipment and perform regular maintenance checks.
  • Keep an adequate supply of clean linens and towels available.
  • Assist the Housekeeping Manager with linen inventory as required.
  • Maintain a log for discarded linens on a regular basis.
  • Sort linens and treat stains appropriately.
  • Ensure the laundry room and related areas are organized and clean.
  • Expedite linen delivery as requested.
  • Notify the Housekeeping Manager of any linen-related issues.
  • Secure and manage keys and supplies responsibly.
  • Provide customer service that reflects the values of Family House.
  • Be ready to assist with housekeeping tasks when necessary.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as required.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Positive customer service attitude.
  • Ability to learn and follow established cleaning protocols.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills to maintain cleanliness in work areas.
  • Ability to communicate issues to management and follow through on solutions.
  • Understanding of housekeeping and laundry cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to comprehend and act on directions from management.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning principles and equipment operation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Availability to work various shifts as required by business needs.
  • Good vision and physical stamina to perform duties for an entire shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push/pull up to 75 pounds.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and agents regularly.
