Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Health Services Assistant to join our team at Duval County Public Schools. As a Health Services Assistant, you will provide essential support in our school health rooms, ensuring the well-being and safety of our students.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide first aid and attend to student health needs as indicated in the School Health Services Manual.

2. Distribute and/or administer prescription and non-prescription medication to students in accordance with Section F.S. and guidelines described in the School Health Services Manual.

3. Perform routine non-invasive medical care and specific health services upon successful completion of face-to-face student-specific training provided by a Registered Nurse.

4. Maintain current school health records and clinic logs, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.

5. Assist students, school personnel, and parents in understanding and coping with a student's disability or condition.

6. Gather records and reports for statistical data relating to health concerns and nursing services.

7. Facilitate Telehealth appointments for students.

Licensing: Dependent upon assignment, may be required to have a valid Florida Driver's License prior to appointment and which must be maintained during employment in this class. First Aid & CPR certification must be maintained during employment in this class.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of the principles, techniques, and procedures in providing first aid
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic skills in establishing and maintaining information, record, document, and file systems
  • Ability to screen and treat minor student illness and injuries as indicated in the School Health Services Manual
  • Ability to evaluate need for medical attention by trained personnel
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to administer medications as directed
  • Ability to initiate appropriate emergency measures
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, and other staff members
  • Ability to inventory and order supplies
