Metalworking Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Metalworking Specialist to join our team at MSC Industrial Direct. This is a full-time position that will report to a Metalworking Sales Manager or Metalworking Specialist Manager and be dedicated to a customer site location.

• Support the achievement of metalworking sales and gross margin goals at the assigned customer location.
• Drive cost savings through manufacturing process improvement at the assigned customer location.
• Deliver on specific customer cost savings agreements in place through contracts.
• Maintain a metalworking opportunity funnel to track progress and success on cost savings activities at the assigned location.
• Provide technical support for metalworking application opportunities to the sales team and customer.
• Coordinate local metalworking supplier support for tool testing in support of the customer.
• Conduct regular meetings with customer production/engineering staff to coordinate the priority level of on-going projects and testing.
• Assist Regional Managers and District Managers as needed in coordinating supplier involvement in regional or branch meetings.
• Support strategic supplier initiatives driven by the Category and Metalworking Management Team.
• Provide local exclusive brand technical and brand support.
• Deliver company innovations effectively, including MSC MillMaxTM and TechMate.
• Execute Customer Needs Analysis at the assigned customer location.
• Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.

• High school diploma required.
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on machining applications experience or demonstrated proficiency in metalworking applications required.
• Engineering education, experience, or background preferred.
• Lean or Six Sigma experience preferred.
• Manufacturing process experience preferred.
• Previous field sales experience with a distributor or metalworking tooling manufacturer is preferred.
• Previous experience with machining productivity improvement or cost savings initiatives preferred.
• Well-rounded proficiency across broad range of metalworking applications is preferred.
