We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist II to join our acute care pediatric team at Hennepin County Medical Center. This casual position will work at our hospital, providing therapeutic services to patients birth through 12 years of age.

Purpose of the Position: In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations, develop and document patient care plans, and educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic techniques and treatments.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations
  • Develop and document patient care plans to promote optimal function and safety
  • Observe, evaluate, and document patient progress
  • Participate in hospital rounds and patient care conferences
  • Provide education to patients and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, care, and treatments
  • Complete all documentation and charges of services per departmental standards
  • Function as a clinical instructor for occupational therapy students
  • Direct and supervise activities performed by OT aides consistent with their training and skill
  • Properly apply and operate rehabilitative equipment
  • Develop and conduct occupational therapy in-services for other staff
  • Orient and mentor newly assigned staff
  • Serve as a clinical resource for other staff
  • Participate in program development
  • Represent the occupational therapy department on committees and provide consultation to other departments and agencies as assigned
  • Assume responsibilities of the supervisor as assigned during the supervisor's absence
  • Provide work direction for clerical staff
  • Assist in monitoring the quality of occupational therapy activities and services
  • Function as a resource for departmental policies and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by the American Medical Association
  • Minimum of 2 full-time years of experience (4,160 hours)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous clinical experience/rehabilitation in peds acute
  • CPR Certification
  • 2+ year(s) of Pediatric Occupational Therapy
  • Experience with birth to age 12
  • Developmental and Trauma peds focus areas
  • Craniosacral training or interest in pursuing this area of intervention
  • Committed to helping children improve critical functions of daily living, sensory integration, fine motor skills, visual perceptual skills, and feeding
  • Passion for peds and providing excellent care while working with diverse patient population

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of policies/procedures and practice standards; occupational therapy theory, techniques, and treatment, physical therapy and orthopedic equipment; counseling and educational techniques; bandaging and wrapping techniques
  • In mental health departments: includes group dynamics, group facilitation, psychopathology, personality development, counseling and educational techniques, communication and social skills, sensory integration, stress management and health maintenance, activity analysis
  • Ability to perform professional occupational therapy techniques and treatment; calibrate and operate occupational therapy equipment
  • Ability to provide work direction for ancillary personnel
  • Ability to counsel and instruct patients and families; ability to recognize and document patient progress
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the medical team
  • Ability to interact with individuals of widely diverse lifestyles including ability to deal objectively with individuals whose attitudes and behaviors differ from his/her own
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions, patient charts, and physicians' notes
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures in an advisory capacity (educate)

License/Certifications:

  • Certified or eligible for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification examination for Occupational Therapist, Registered
  • Proof of Minnesota Board of Occupational Therapy Practitioner License or temporary license
