Position Overview:

Conducts advanced diagnostic cardiac sonography examinations to evaluate cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics in alignment with the established standards of practice and the mission of the organization. Responsible for executing all standard echocardiography procedures within the department with a high degree of proficiency.

In addition to the responsibilities of lower-level positions, this role includes:
- adult congenital heart echocardiograms
- involvement in cardiac research initiatives

May also take on the responsibility of performing specialized procedures and/or training new staff within the department.

This is a limited-term position.

Other: Completion of an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

Two of the following certifications are required:

RCS (CCI)-Registered Cardiac Sonographer

ACS (CCI) - Advanced Cardiac Sonographer

ARDMS - RDCS(AE) - Adult

ARDMS - RDCS(PE) - Pediatric

ARDMS - RDCS(FE) - Fetal

ARDMS - RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist (for those who entered this role prior to a specified date)

OR fulfill one of the following criteria:

  • High complexity 3D/4D imaging and strain imaging acquisition and post-processing
  • Imaging for pre and post structural heart transthoracic echocardiograms
  • Imaging for Left Ventricular Assist Devices and ECMO
  • Cardiac transplant patient imaging
  • Adult congenital patient imaging
  • Participation in cardiac research projects involving echocardiography
  • Vascular imaging in addition to cardiac imaging
  • Cardiac MRI acquisition and analysis

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 5 years of recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

In-depth understanding of diagnostic cardiac sonography principles, techniques, views, and equipment, with significant experience in emergency situations, including trauma responses and medical alerts.

Proficient in conducting cardiac sonographic assessments with a comprehensive grasp of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology, enabling the recognition and communication of abnormal findings.

Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including those without medical backgrounds.

Excellent time management and organizational abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and adhere to established procedures and scientific methods to meet objectives and deadlines.

Solid knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and relevant information systems (Radiology Information Systems, Laboratory Information Systems, Electronic Health Records, EPIC, and Picture Archive and Communication Systems).

Ability to prioritize tasks and operate within defined policies and procedures to achieve goals and meet deadlines; assist in determining the best approach for new assignments.

Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team, managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

Utilize experience and established protocols to address unusual or infrequent challenges; provide informal guidance and support to junior staff members.

Ensure the confidentiality of each patient's protected health information.

Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
