About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer to join our team at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Charlottesville, VA. As a key member of our Central Development Lab, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining highly-integrated analog, digital, and photonic front-ends for radio telescopes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop high-frequency front-end components and subsystems for receivers
  • Analyze signal path performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Work with technicians to assemble and test completed front ends
  • Collaborate with research engineers to evaluate measurements and improve receiver front end module performance
  • Update mechanical drawings, schematics, and circuit boards to implement design changes
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in RF engineering and digital design
  • Background in high-frequency techniques, electromagnetic simulation, and microwave test and measurement
Competencies
  • Knowledge of RF theory and digital design
  • Experience with monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) design and circuit board layout
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
