We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities maintenance team at Washington and Jefferson College. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our campus facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Facilities Maintenance: Perform a variety of housekeeping and janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and waxing floors, as well as cleaning walls, vents, screens, furniture, drinking fountains, light fixtures, window blinds, and other interior fixtures.
- Special Function Set-ups: Assist with setting up and breaking down facilities for special events and functions, including moving furniture, supplies, and equipment.
- Trash and Recycling: Empty trash cans, sweep entryways, and remove snow and ice from campus walkways and parking lots.
- Restroom Maintenance: Clean and maintain restrooms, including plunger sinks and toilets, and replenish supplies.
- Physical Plant Maintenance: Perform minor repairs, such as replacing sweeper belts or removing light fixture covers, as required.
- Safety and Security: Follow prescribed safety regulations and report any potential risks or hazards to management.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: No prior work experience required, but ability to learn new procedures and techniques is essential.
- Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend at a level appropriate to the duties of the position, good interpersonal skills, and willingness to learn.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, push and pull, stand, walk up to 8 hours per day, climb ladders and scaffolds up to 10' high, and bend, stoop, and kneel.
