Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation for Surgical Procedures:
Utilizes procedure preference lists to ensure all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment are ready for surgical operations. Maintains a sterile environment throughout the procedure. - Assisting Surgeons:
Acts as the primary scrub person, assisting surgeons by passing instruments, sponges, sutures, and other necessary items. Responsible for performing counts of sponges, needles, and instruments as per established protocols. - Patient Safety Advocate:
Ensures the safety of patients by protecting them from potential harm and maintaining the integrity of the sterile field. - Communication and Record Maintenance:
Restocks supplies and organizes the operating room for subsequent procedures. Must be prepared to take primary call duties as assigned. - Continuous Education:
Participates in required in-services, annual reviews, and educational programs to stay updated with best practices. - Regulatory Compliance:
Adheres to standards of care and policies established by North Mississippi Medical Center.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should be graduates of an accredited Surgical Technology program or possess two years of scrub experience in an operating room setting. Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred. Additionally, American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification at the Healthcare Provider Level is mandatory. A period of orientation and training will be provided, which includes rotations in various surgical specialties.
