Emergency Department at UNC Rex Holly Springs features 24 treatment areas and a Results Waiting area designed for less urgent cases and overflow patients. Our facility includes two spacious resuscitation rooms (one specifically for pediatric care) and five rooms designated for triage and initial evaluations. Role Responsibilities:

As a vital member of the Emergency Department clinical team, the paramedic will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary group to provide age-appropriate care in accordance with established medical standards. Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse and Physician, the paramedic will deliver care to patients, utilizing skills approved by NC-OEMS.

Key duties include:

  • Following directives from nursing and medical staff to implement prescribed treatments within the scope of practice.
  • Conducting rapid assessments of incoming patients and effectively communicating their needs to the care team.
  • Identifying clinical priorities and taking action to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment by ensuring patient confidentiality and demonstrating respectful and professional behavior.
  • Acting as an advocate for patients.
  • Facilitating effective communication to promote information sharing.
  • Utilizing triage skills to prioritize incoming patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Performing basic data collection, preparing patients for examinations, and relaying findings to the primary or charge nurse.
  • Assisting with blood draws and IV initiation as per orders and in collaboration with nursing staff.
  • Transporting patients as necessary throughout the facility.
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned by management.
Additional Information

Education Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Completion of an OEMS approved training program for Paramedics and current North Carolina Paramedic Certification required.
* Certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS are mandatory.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Minimum of six months experience in a pre-hospital setting as a Paramedic is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Candidates must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and respond to the unique needs of patients across all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Clinical competence must be validated through the position's Skills Checklist before independent practice is permitted.
