Job Summary

Virginia Commonwealth University's Facilities Management Department is seeking a skilled Electrical/Ventilation Trades Specialist to join its Facilities Operations team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations of building infrastructure, primarily exhaust and fume hood systems. Your expertise will ensure the efficient operation of Zone facilities, providing exemplary customer service to faculty, staff, and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations of electrical and mechanical systems, including exhaust and fume hood systems.
  • Provide customer service to faculty, staff, and students, responding to service requests and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Identify and document system deficiencies, advising management of tasks requiring priority attention.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure safe and orderly completion of service requests and projects.
  • Monitor the work of contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and drawings.
Requirements
  • Several years' experience in commercial/institutional electrical or mechanical maintenance.
  • Electrical or HVAC courses I, II, III, code classes, basic and advanced training or equivalent combination of experience and trade/craft training.
  • State of Virginia Journeyman Electrical or HVAC License required or the ability to obtain within the first year of service.
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, service, and install a wide variety of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers.
  • Knowledge of appropriate building codes.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Ability to be on-call required.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
