The Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Affordable Housing Case Manager to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the continued eligibility of Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program participants, calculating rent levels, and monitoring program compliance.

Overview

HASLC is a federally funded Special Purpose Government Agency that provides rent subsidies and promotes affordable housing for low-income individuals residing in Salt Lake City. With over 10,000 individuals assisted, we are the largest public housing authority in Utah and the largest provider of Affordable Housing in the Salt Lake Valley.

Job Summary

The Affordable Housing Case Manager position involves managing an assigned case load, documenting and monitoring participant eligibility, calculating rent levels, and ensuring program compliance. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to effectively interact with participants, landlords, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial, annual, and interim re-examinations of income and family composition through interviews and collection of documentation.
  • Educate participants on program policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Collect, review, verify, and calculate income, assets, and deductions, maintaining accurate records.
  • Enter housing and income-related information into software systems and maintain complete files.
  • Calculate housing assistance payments (HAP) and tenant rent portions in accordance with HUD regulations and HASLC policy.
  • Coordinate with HASLC Inspectors to schedule timely inspections.
  • Investigate allegations of fraud, provide accurate files, and summarize cases.
  • Resolve concerns or complaints between landlords, participants, and HASLC.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, and two years' experience in social services, administrative/customer service, or a related housing industry position.
  • Self-starter with ability to maintain organized records under pressure, with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills, high degree of tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and creative problem-solving.
  • Able to accurately interpret and follow regulations relating to the HCV (Section 8) Program.
  • Work effectively with people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Interpersonal skills to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office Suite software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
