Position Overview

The Prepared Foods Team Leader is responsible for providing comprehensive leadership to the prepared foods department. This role encompasses all facets of daily operations, including but not limited to profitability, expense management, purchasing, merchandising, labor oversight, regulatory compliance, and special projects as assigned.

The leader is accountable for the hiring, development, corrective actions, and separations of team members. A positive company image must be maintained by delivering courteous, friendly, and efficient service to both customers and team members at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accountability among team members, including ATLs and supervisors, for delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Foster a positive work environment characterized by teamwork, mutual respect, and high morale.
  • Make informed hiring and separation decisions.
  • Monitor and achieve sales, purchasing, and labor objectives.
  • Maintain appropriate product assortment, merchandising, and inventory control.
  • Develop and sustain collaborative relationships with department leaders and vendors.
  • Stay informed about competitors and industry trends.
  • Set and uphold the highest standards of retail execution.
  • Guide team members to meet customer needs and respond promptly to inquiries.
  • Recruit, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel team members to maintain a high-performance team.
  • Conduct timely and thorough performance evaluations.
  • Consistently communicate and embody the vision and goals of the organization.
Required Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of competitors and industry trends.
  • Advanced understanding of products, purchasing, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management.
  • Food safety certification is required; commitment to obtaining certification within six months if not currently certified.
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, team-building, and customer relationship skills.

  • Proficient in product knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory and safety policies and procedures.

Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 24 months of retail experience, including at least 12 months in a leadership role.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday.
  • Perform tasks requiring hand use, including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • Engage in bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals and temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Work in both wet and dry conditions.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Utilize tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other machinery.
  • May require the use of ladders.
