Job Summary

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to serve as an Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Programming in the Advanced Academic Programs Office of Student Affairs. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and assessing programs that foster an inclusive and engaging environment for graduate students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Implementation
    • Create and execute social, cultural, and educational programming that complements the academic curriculum and serves the graduate student body.
    • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Student Affairs to develop and implement events, such as Welcome Week and end-of-semester stress reduction activities.
    • Work with Life Design, Alumni Relations, and AAP Faculty and Events to deliver programming.
    • Co-create and implement activities and events to increase networking opportunities for all students.
  • Student Organization Support
    • Coordinate and support division and student organization-sponsored programs.
    • Advise the AAP Student Advisory Group, the division's student governance group, and student programming board.
    • Serve as the point of contact for registered student organizations, including the AAP Student Advisory Group, and provide guidance on club/organization management, event planning, goal setting, budget requests, and programming development.
  • Communication and Marketing
    • Publicize and work with the marketing team to design and implement marketing of AAP Student Affairs-sponsored events and programs.
    • Assist in maintaining and managing the student events calendar.
  • Administrative and Financial Management
    • Develop and maintain guidance, procedures, and tools for event planning.
    • Ensure appropriate procedures, insurance, waivers, security, financial safeguards, and best practices are utilized to promote safe programs and activities.
    • Work collaboratively with all members of the Student Affairs team to support departmental initiatives and address student needs.
    • Manage and reconcile procurement card.
    • Enter transactions into SAP, including check requests, cost transfers, and shopping carts.
    Requirements
    • Education and Experience
      • Master's Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, or related area.
      • Three years of relevant advising experience.
    • Skills and Abilities
      • Demonstrated passion for working with highly talented, socially and culturally diverse student populations.
      • Excellent interpersonal, oral, public speaking, writing, and listening skills.
      • Excellent ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty members, and staff at all levels.
      • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds and to foster sensitivity to diversity and an inclusive campus and community culture.
      • Ability to use appropriate judgment when dealing with sensitive issues and problem solve.
      • Proven ability to cultivate trust and credibility with colleagues and to build positive and effective relationships.
      • Proven track record of establishing strategic relationships to strengthen program and service delivery.
      • Ability to effectively present information to learners.
