Position Overview
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Safety Specialist is responsible for overseeing all safety-related aspects of the subcontractor selection process, including work plan reviews, training, confined space entry, hot work permitting, scaffolding, and more on job sites.
This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards and regulations, proactively identifying and correcting any violations.
The primary goal is to maintain a safe environment for all employees, including subcontractors, in accordance with EHS standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and manages an overall occupational safety and health program for employees.
- Identifies and assesses hazardous conditions.
- Conducts comprehensive project safety inspections.
- Collaborates with Project Teams to enhance safety measures.
- Provides safety coordination and support as directed by the Safety Director.
- Reports to and assists the Safety Director in various capacities.
- Ensures adherence to the Foreman Manual, applicable OSHA standards, and any specific owner requirements.
- Performs daily safety inspections and monitors safety performance across all personnel.
- Acts as a resource for foremen and superintendents to mitigate safety risks and foster positive relationships.
- Plans and coordinates company-wide safety meetings and training sessions.
- Develops and implements safety training programs and onboarding processes for field employees.
- Serves as a liaison between project management and field employees regarding health and safety matters.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ensures compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Assists with reporting requirements related to COVID-19.
- Oversees the company’s safety tracking program, including annual awards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management, or a minimum of 4 years of relevant construction engineering experience.
- 2-3 years of experience in a safety role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of occupational safety and health procedures.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with field superintendents and craft personnel.
- Experience working with diverse groups, including public agencies, private utilities, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Employment Conditions
Successful completion of pre-employment background screening, drug/alcohol testing, and background/security clearance is required. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are also necessary.
