Process Engineer Specialist

To create a more sustainable future, our client has developed a revolutionary iron smelting process, leveraging well-understood chemistry to minimize the environmental impact of steel production.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will play a vital role in scaling up this technology from the laboratory to Pilot Scale. As part of the Research Team, you will apply your expertise in steel making, primary metallurgy, and engineering to help move our client's technology forward. This position reports directly to the CEO initially, and eventually to the VP of Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and design high-temperature process equipment for steelmaking, ensuring efficient operation and minimal waste.
- Review the Technology Roadmap with the Research and Engineering Teams to identify knowledge gaps and develop strategies to fill them.
- Work closely with vendors during equipment installation, developing safety protocols, job descriptions, and team training.
- Instrument the pilot-scale furnace to collect valuable process data, collaborating with suppliers and team members.
- Collaborate with Operations and Research Teams on experimental plans for Pilot Scale furnaces, ensuring safe scale-up.
- Establish process flows, recipes, work standards, and quality assurance measures to guarantee predictable throughput and quality.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field, preferably Pyrometallurgy, Metallurgy, or Materials Science.
- At least 12 years of experience in process engineering, with in-depth knowledge of extractive metallurgy processes and commissioning new equipment.
- Experience managing steel-making operations and personnel is highly desirable.
- Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, including problem-solving, data collection, and implementation of sustainable improvements.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively at all levels.
- Capacity to build strong relationships with vendors and positively influence their performance.
Estimated Salary Range: $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications.
