Job Title: Financial Staff Accountant

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in an educational setting;
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting standards, and practices;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • High attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Self-starter with the ability to establish priorities and complete projects on time;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledger entries, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and adjustments;
  • Prepare the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports;
  • Implement month and year-end close process;
  • Implement internal business processes and conduct training as necessary;
  • Collaborate with payroll related grant processes;
  • General fixed asset accounting and reconciliation;
  • Support employee travel requests and reimbursement processes;
  • Collaborate with budget preparation and monitoring;
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to school finance;
  • Support audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations;
  • Work closely with other departments to provide financial information and support decision-making processes;
  • Analyze financial data and prepare reports to identify trends and variances;
  • Comply with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations;
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment.
Work Hours
  • Supervisor may assign additional work hours;
  • Employee performs On-Call and Call-Back duties as assigned;
  • Salary and work year as per adopted Rio Rancho Public Schools Staff Salary Schedule.
