Job Overview:
L3Harris Technologies is on the lookout for an Advanced Concepts Engineer (ACE) specializing in Optical Communication to contribute to space, airborne, and multi-domain initiatives. This role presents a unique opportunity to tackle complex challenges while leveraging your extensive expertise in free-space optical communication networks. Your recognized professional skills will play a crucial role in delivering essential solutions that safeguard national interests.
This position requires strategic technical leadership to utilize L3Harris' competencies to fulfill the business needs of both the company and its clients. You will be instrumental in supporting the expansion strategy of the Space and Airborne Systems Segments, enhancing our capabilities across various mission areas. We focus on developing cutting-edge space and airborne communication solutions to meet our customers' most demanding missions and identify synergies across different business sectors.
The ACE role serves as a bridge between engineering, program management, and business development functions. This pivotal position will foster innovation and ensure the technical execution of high-performance communication systems that align with U.S. National Security objectives. The ideal candidate will excel in a matrix organization and possess a robust understanding of system engineering, multidisciplinary processes, and technical principles, alongside a proven history of successful technical leadership.
The ACE will consider all relevant factors, including customer missions, budget constraints, technical preferences, and operational environments, fostering trust within the organization. The successful candidate will guide technological innovation, support the development of technology and mission roadmaps, promote excellence in program execution, and source innovative concepts for emerging challenges.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree in Engineering with at least 10 years of related experience. Alternatively, a minimum of 16 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Active Top-Secret SCI security clearance (TS-SCI).
- Experience collaborating with U.S. Government clients.
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in space and airborne systems engineering, particularly in free-space optical communication requirements development, systems analysis, design, integration, verification, and testing.
- Familiarity with engineering processes and the ability to adapt innovative solutions to evolving missions.
- Prior experience in business development and customer engagement.
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including remote sites and both internal and external stakeholders.

- Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
- Demonstrated success in entrepreneurial ventures.
- Experience with modems and optical communication standards.
- Familiarity with Agile Development methodologies.
- Ability to proactively identify and resolve issues swiftly.
- Experience in analyzing, developing, and integrating electronic systems in areas such as remote sensing, aerospace payloads, mission computing, communications, networking, robotics, and cyber/electronic warfare.
