POSITION SUMMARY

This role is essential for ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of municipal buildings and facilities. The individual in this position will engage in routine manual tasks aimed at maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for all city operations.

As part of a municipal organization, employees may be called upon to assist in various emergency situations, including those related to weather, which may require flexibility in job duties beyond the typical scope of work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct thorough cleaning of floor surfaces through sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, waxing, and vacuuming, while planning schedules to minimize disruption.
  2. Perform daily sanitation of restrooms, including toilets, sinks, counters, and floors, while ensuring adequate supplies of paper products and soap.
  3. Execute window and wall cleaning as directed, ensuring a tidy appearance throughout the facilities.
  4. Dust and maintain cleanliness in common areas across city properties.
  5. Regularly clean the lobby area, ensuring a welcoming environment for visitors.
  6. Manage recycling collection from offices on a daily basis.
  7. Utilize cleaning equipment responsibly and maintain accountability for cleaning supplies inventory.
  8. Respond to emergency clean-up situations as needed.
  9. Carry out minor repairs on facilities as required.
  10. Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  1. Familiarity with cleaning procedures and equipment.
  2. Understanding of the layout and locations of city buildings.
  3. Awareness of safety policies and departmental regulations.
  4. Knowledge of appropriate cleaning chemicals and their applications.
  5. Ability to follow instructions effectively.
  6. Proficiency in operating various cleaning machinery.

SUPERVISION

Work is assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, who provides general instructions and evaluates completed tasks for adherence to standards.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include city policies, departmental procedures, and safety regulations, requiring sound judgment in their application.

WORK COMPLEXITY

  • The position involves a range of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks, with the complexity arising from the variety of locations.
  • The primary goal is to maintain clean and safe facilities for public use.

CONTACTS

  • Interactions typically occur with maintenance personnel, supervisors, and department heads for information exchange and problem resolution.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The role requires physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, and climbing, with the ability to handle both light and heavy objects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have supervisory duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Over two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.
  • Valid state driver's license required.
