About the Role

The Metrology Technician will be responsible for ensuring lab equipment is operational, coordinating or conducting repairs as necessary, maintaining CMM programs to ensure they are most accurate and up to date, and ensuring gauges are functional and calibrated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for CMM programming, from basic programming to expert level programming.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and complies with all EHS policies and procedures.
  • Maintains conformance to IATF quality management standards, verifies lab procedures and documentation are accurate, and initiates revisions as necessary.
  • Leads 5S activities for the lab.
  • Responsible for ensuring equipment calibrations are up to date and conducts repairs as needed.
  • Provides guidance, leadership, and subject matter expertise on metrology topics.
  • Performs statistical analysis to qualify measurement equipment.
  • Creates and facilitates incoming inspection plans.
  • Performs and supports the creation of ISIR/dimensional reports for compiling PPAP documentation.
  • Works with vendors to request RFQ for calibrations, gages, and additional services in accordance with ZF policies, and creates purchase requisitions as necessary.
  • Supports production quality issues and helps to resolve them.
  • Performs basic quality inspections using CMM, gauges, and other devices or equipment.
  • Performs incoming inspections, in-process inspections, dock audits, process audits, and creates quality alerts.
  • Maintains traceability of parts by serial number using bar code scanning equipment.
  • Initiates, performs, and manages sorts, scrap material processing, and production set ups.
  • Uses basic GD&T knowledge to refer to blueprints to determine proper specifications for inspection.
  • Works closely with Process Quality Engineers, Supplier Quality Engineers, suppliers, and coworkers for component quality improvements and root cause analysis.
  • Safely operates powered industrial vehicles once qualified to do so.
  • Uses SAP for work lists, inspection plans, location movements, quality holds, scrap, and reporting.
  • Uses MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to facilitate communication.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule and work assignments.
  • Communicates issues between shifts and escalates to leadership as necessary.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge as a Quality Technician in a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T principles and applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of reading engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Thorough knowledge of measurement gauges, including calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of CMM operations and interpreting results.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • English competency (reading, writing & speaking).
  • IATF/ISO/ISO system familiarity (preferred).
  • AIAG Core Tools Awareness (preferred).
  • SAP experience (preferred).
