Role Overview:

This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the successful execution of the sanitation program at the LHD Walton Facility. Key responsibilities include evaluating the design and capabilities of the CIP system, managing cleaning methodologies, maintaining chemical inventory based on performance metrics, and ensuring continuous improvement through verification and validation of the cleaning program.

The Sanitation Operations Manager will report directly to the QA Manager and play a crucial role in decision-making regarding the selection and modification of CIP systems, as well as the reevaluation of processes and methodologies for ongoing enhancement and capital investment projects related to sanitation.

Primary Objectives:

The main goal of this position is to ensure effective management of plant sanitation, cleaning protocols, and compliance with GMPs, legal and safety regulations, as well as corporate sanitation policies and procedures.

This is a salaried, exempt position with one direct report (Supervisor).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of capital projects related to sanitation programs and equipment.
  • Oversee the implementation of sanitation programs and practices, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints, timelines, and operational efficiency.
  • Establish goals and KPIs for the sanitation area, ensuring alignment with overall functional and plant objectives.
  • Analyze data and trends related to cleaning verification and validation activities, initiating corrective and preventive actions to maintain product safety and quality standards.
  • Monitor, audit, and adjust cleaning systems and procedures to guarantee optimal cleanliness of processing and packaging lines, as well as surrounding areas.
  • Conduct quarterly audits of third-shift sanitation practices.
  • Participate in planning for operational shutdowns and sanitation activities during those periods.
  • Collaborate with management and production teams to troubleshoot sanitation issues and recommend improvements to policies and procedures.
  • Perform comprehensive sanitation audits for each unique production process to assess effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement the Master Validation Plan and verification programs.
  • Recruit and train new personnel as necessary, ensuring appropriate competency levels.
  • Act as a technical resource for the facility on sanitation and cleaning control matters.
  • Formulate and execute strategies to enhance cleaning effectiveness while identifying opportunities to reduce operational costs.
  • Ensure that Employee & Food Safety and Sanitation Programs are developed, adhered to, and executed with excellence by all sanitation staff.
  • Collaborate with the QC Manager to maintain an accurate inventory of cleaning chemicals that meet the plant's cleaning objectives.
  • Oversee the sanitation schedule and approved SSOPs, reflecting process improvements that uphold or enhance hygienic conditions.
  • Review and maintain sanitation documentation for Quality Assurance and regulatory compliance.
  • Build partnerships with production, quality, and human resources teams to achieve production and personnel goals.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the sanitation team in executing their responsibilities, focusing on food safety, performance, planning, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; addressing complaints and resolving issues.
  • Serve as a member of the Food Safety Team, offering expertise on sanitation and cleaning validation processes.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • BSc Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Food, or similar).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in sanitation processes within a food manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading direct-reporting team members.
  • Specialized knowledge in CIP Design and Operation.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong business acumen, including problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently through effective planning and organization.
  • A strong desire to train, coach, and develop others to enhance performance.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Personal qualities of tact, dependability, and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering calculations to define CIP parameters (flow) in systems.
