Job Title: Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Powder Coating

Tesla's Manufacturing Engineering team is at the forefront of developing innovative processes that enable the production of high-quality vehicles at a competitive rate in a safe and ergonomic environment.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design and development of powder coating processes used in the manufacturing of our products. The successful candidate will be responsible for specification and validation, establishing and optimizing critical process parameters, design for manufacturing, equipment specification and design, as well as installation and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration and build relationships across the organization through coordination with other process, equipment, mechanical, electrical, and support disciplines.
  • Lead product design for manufacturability (DFM) and sustainability, including analysis of product design and identification of potential risks to the process and steering product design to the lowest overall cost (BOM & manufacturing cost).
  • Documentation of product requirements for process and equipment specification.
  • Development of advanced processing technologies and equipment from concept to serial production.
  • Detailed line design based on process requirements, throughput, and OEE calculations.
  • Lead process qualification, including development of acceptance testing criteria and verifying process/equipment meets requirements using statistical tools (such as GR&R, SPC, and Cp/Cpk).
  • Management of large-scale projects for new programs, including the development of timing plans and cost breakdowns for executive approval, identification of risks to project timing driving corrective action, reporting of project status to executive team, and oversight of installation and commissioning of new manufacturing lines.
Requirements:
  • 8 or more years of experience in a technology-based industry, where automated methods are utilized in the finishing/coating of consumer products.
  • Experience working with or developing automotive paint and powder coating processes.
  • Experience with developing, installing, and commissioning high-volume process equipment & automation systems, including pre-treatment, e-coat equipment, paint/powder application equipment, paint/powder booths, ovens, conveyors, & robotics.
  • Experience in developing, executing, and interpreting results of Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Experience using industrial engineering methods in high-volume manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in using Catia, SolidWorks, Inventor, and/or AutoCAD & automation software.
  • Proficient in the development and deployment of PFMEAs, new product introduction, and manufacturing operations.

Expected Compensation:

Associate Manufacturing Engineer - $68,000 - $102,000/annual salary.

Manufacturing Engineer - $88,400 - $132,600/annual salary.

Sr Manufacturing Engineer - $98,600 - $147,900/annual salary.

Staff Manufacturing Engineer - $112,200 - $168,300/annual salary.

Sr Staff Manufacturing Engineer - $136,000 - $204,000/annual salary.

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
