About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team at Dallas VA Research Corporation. As a Research Engineer, you will play a key role in advancing the state-of-the-art in large language models.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Develop Advanced Language Models: Design methods, tools, and infrastructure to push forward the state of the art in large language models.
  • Conduct Research and Development: Define research goals informed by practical engineering concerns and contribute to experiments, including designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work with a large and globally distributed team to adapt standard machine learning methods to best exploit modern parallel environments (e.g. distributed clusters, multicore SMP, and GPU).
  • Contribute to Publications and Open-Sourcing Efforts: Contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts to share knowledge and advancements with the research community.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Research experience in machine learning, deep learning, and/or natural language processing is required.
  • Programming Skills: Experience with developing machine learning models at scale from inception to business impact, with proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Architectural Patterns: Exposure to architectural patterns of large scale software applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Education: Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • PhD in AI or Related Field: Direct experience in generative AI and LLM research, with a PhD in AI, computer science, data science, or related technical fields.
  • Research Experience: First author publications at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).
