Monterey, California, United States ECO Magazine Full time
Postdoctoral Researcher in Ocean Biogeochemistry

The Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling (SOCCOM) initiative at ECO Magazine is in search of a dedicated and passionate postdoctoral researcher to engage in cutting-edge studies utilizing biogeochemical data from profiling floats to enhance our understanding of oceanic processes.

SOCCOM represents a comprehensive and collaborative investigation into ocean dynamics, the global carbon cycle, and climate variations. A primary focus is the application of sensor data from an extensive network of biogeochemical profiling floats to analyze phenomena at both basin and inter-annual scales. The emphasis will be on the Southern Ocean and its implications for the global marine environment. Integration of observational data with numerical modeling efforts within SOCCOM is highly beneficial.

Successful candidates will become part of a dynamic interdisciplinary research collective involving principal investigators from various esteemed institutions. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for overseeing all facets of this project, including data acquisition and analysis, project documentation, manuscript development, and disseminating significant findings to collaborators and the wider scientific community.

A Ph.D. in chemical oceanography, biogeochemistry, or a closely related discipline is essential. Extensive expertise in marine biogeochemistry, along with proven skills in programming languages such as Matlab, R, or Python, is highly preferred. Opportunities to participate in research expeditions deploying profiling floats will be available. The candidate will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, thus, strong communication abilities are essential.

This position is structured as a two-year term with the possibility of extension.

ECO Magazine is committed to equal opportunity and affirmative action in employment practices. All applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status in compliance with applicable laws.
