Position Overview

DeVine Consulting, Inc. offers scientific, educational, and technical support services to government entities. We are seeking a Research Scientist to contribute in a part-time role (approximately 900 hours annually). This position is designated for U.S. Citizens only, as it involves collaboration with a government client.

Our client requires ongoing assistance for research focused on the burial depth of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in estuarine settings. This initiative also supports educational program development by incorporating underwater UXO impact burial predictions within estuarine environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create an Interactive Data Processing and Display Package for the analysis of underwater hydrographic and sediment data.
  • Develop software solutions for accessing diverse oceanographic data.
  • Design visualization tools for profiling and gridded data representation.
  • Provide statistical analysis capabilities for seabed sediment data evaluation.
  • Install and maintain the underwater rigid-body trajectory model (STRIKE35).
  • Analyze data related to underwater projectile trajectories.
  • Gather underwater trajectory information.
  • Establish parameters for the underwater projectile model and formulate a projectile penetration model.
  • Develop input connections from seabed sediment data for the penetration model.
  • Deliver a software package for the rigid-body penetration model.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Oceanography.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience applying statistical, dynamical, and numerical methods to solve various oceanographic challenges.
  • At least 5 years of experience processing the Navy's Master Observational Oceanographic Data Set (MOODS).
  • 5+ years of proficiency with PC and LINUX systems, utilizing MATLAB, FORTRAN, and C programming languages to enhance ocean models.
  • Familiarity with underwater bomb trajectory prediction models, specifically STRIKE35.
  • Proven ability to write efficient, well-documented code in FORTRAN, C++, MATLAB, and LINUX shell scripts for acquiring, storing, managing, processing, analyzing, and visualizing ocean optical and hydrographic data.

Position Details:

  • Type: Part-time, U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Location: Remote with occasional travel.
  • Benefits: Includes matching 401K and paid sick leave.
  • Compensation: $47 to $62 per hour, based on experience and skills.
