Pharmacy Technician I Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician I to join our team at Tucson Medical Center. As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will play a vital role in assisting pharmacists with processing and compounding prescriptions, ensuring accurate and timely medication delivery to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist pharmacists in processing and compounding prescriptions, including filling orders and preparing labels.
  • Clarify orders for all types of medications and document pertinent information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Comply with Federal and State statutes, rules, and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy.
  • Prepare and make deliveries to patient care areas and ancillary units.
  • Process patient charges for pharmaceuticals as required.
  • Replenish medicine supply carts/automated dispensing units for nursing units and ensure the pharmacy is stocked with essential drugs and pharmaceuticals.
  • Compound, label, and package pharmaceuticals.
  • Count, package, and label unit doses and fill routine orders for inspection by pharmacists.
  • Use aseptic admixture technique in the horizontal or vertical laminar airflow hood as appropriate.
  • Enter or retrieve data from established computer files.
  • Adhere to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Licensed by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as Technician Trainee. Pharmacy Technician licensure obtained within one year of hire.
  • Heartsaver CPR (HSCPR or HSFACPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical practices and procedures and regulations involving the administering of medications.
  • Knowledge of medicine terminology.
  • Skill in compounding and processing prescriptions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to listen and accurately interpret others' communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
  • Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and apply basic algebraic concepts.
