About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Central Service Technician to join our team at Williamson Medical Center. As a key member of our Central Sterilization department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by providing sterile and disinfected equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities
  • Decontamination Area:
    • Adhere to Central Sterilization decontamination area policies and procedures.
    • Properly wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Knowledge of ultrasonic and instrument washer testing and operation.
    • Adhere to Central Sterilization eye wash station policy and procedures, including weekly testing.
  • Instrument Assembly Area:
    • Assemble instruments and equipment according to Central Sterilization policies and procedures.
    • Utilize available resources (Censitrac and OneSource) for the correct sterilization methods.
    • Utilize proper instrument wrapping techniques and proper peel packaging of surgical instruments.
  • Sterilization:
    • Adhere to Central Sterilization policies related to all sterilization methods, including Steam – prevac /gravity and Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide.
    • Properly load sterilization racks and follow Central Sterilization policies and procedures for sterilization.
    • Monitor chemical and physical sterilization cycle parameters, document results correctly.
  • Sterile Storage:
    • Adhere to storage requirements for sterilized reusable medical equipment.
    • Facilitate a cohesive sterile processing team, assist with the orientation and training of new personnel, and participate in the development of educational programs for coworkers.
    • Participate in quality improvement activities, develop process improvement plans, and implement.
Requirements
  • Formal Education / Training:
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Previous Central Service experience required.
    • Certified Central Service Technician must maintain 10 hours of continuing education (CE) annually.
    • Certification must be attained from either the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
    • Certification must be maintained according to requirements of either the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Workplace Experience:
    • Central Sterilization and Processing experience in an Inpatient or Outpatient Surgery Environment.
  • Equipment and Skills Training:
    • The ability to work well under pressure, function independently or within a team.
    • Flexibility in applying basic sterile processing knowledge in a variety of settings.
    • Knowledge in the following CSP equipment: surgical equipment, instruments, and trays; Pre-Vac and Gravity steam sterilization; low-temperature sterilization; surgical instrument washer/disinfector and ultrasonic cleaner, network computer system; computerized surgical instrument tracking system.
  • Physical Environment:
    • An Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical facility with a patient population ranging from less than one year of age to ninety-nine plus years of age.
    • Environmental conditions include possible exposure to anesthetics, radiation, and infectious disease entities.
  • Physical Effort:
    • Requires the ability to communicate in English orally and written.
    • Requires prolonged standing and working for up to twelve hours a day.
    • Constantly required to push/pull objects up to 175 lbs.
    • Requires the ability to lift, position, and transport with assistance up to 250 lbs.
    • Ability to work overtime or late shifts as required by the work load schedule.
    • Weekend/Holiday call rotation required.
