We are excited to announce an opportunity for a highly skilled Lead R&D Software Engineer to join our team in the Applied Research Laboratories at The University of Texas at Austin. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in leading research and development efforts, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring junior engineers.

Your primary responsibilities will include coordinating the design, implementation, testing, and integration of real-time and data processing software applications. You will also supervise and mentor junior and mid-level software engineers, ensuring their growth and professional development.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead a team to develop high-frequency tactical sonar systems, incorporating display, hardware coordination, signal processing, algorithm design, and implementation.
  • Supervise and mentor junior and mid-level software engineers, fostering their technical growth and professional development.
  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive project objectives and milestones forward.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • At least three years of experience developing software in C++ targeting a Linux environment.
  • Experience in leading teams, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate project requirements into achievable tasks.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a willingness to work with principal investigators and customers.
Compensation and Benefits

The University of Texas at Austin offers a competitive salary range of $104,000 - $174,000+, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including 100% employer-paid basic medical coverage, retirement contributions, paid vacation and sick time, and paid holidays.
