Job Overview

King Machine Companies is seeking an experienced Precision Machinist to join our team in Sumter, SC. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for operating complex machine tools to produce high-precision parts.

About the Role

This is a 2nd shift position (4:00 pm-12:30 am) that requires a minimum of 1 year of experience in a machine shop setting. You should have proficiency in VTL or similar turning applications, as well as strong knowledge of materials, cutting speeds, and machining processes.

Responsibilities

  • Operate complex machine tools with emphasis on VTL and turning applications
  • Perform precision measurements using advanced measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications, including GD&T
  • Calculate and verify dimensions and tolerances in both metric and standard measurement systems
  • Set up, operate, and maintain machinery, fixtures, and gauges
  • Conduct quality inspections and maintain detailed documentation
  • Maintain equipment and work area to high safety and cleanliness standards
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues independently

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a machine shop setting
  • Proficiency in VTL or similar turning applications
  • Strong knowledge of materials, cutting speeds, and machining processes
  • Ability to read measuring instruments, specifically micrometers
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle, or alternate form of transportation

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Knee Mill (Bridgeport) and Horizontal Boring Mill
  • Familiarity with a wide range of machine tools and equipment
  • Vertical turning lathe experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Capability to lift and handle materials safely
  • Visual acuity for precise measurements and quality inspection
  • Manual dexterity for operating complex machinery

Salary Information

The estimated salary for this role is $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience.
