We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the clinical activities in our laboratory.
Key Responsibilities- Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow to ensure accurate and timely results.
- Participate in teams or perform special projects/assignments to improve laboratory operations and patient care.
- Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and train new employees to ensure knowledge transfer and continuity.
- Perform quality control and equipment maintenance to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Conduct routine and less standardized test procedures, including special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests.
- Prepare specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required to support testing.
- Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confere with them regarding test results.
- Review test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of errors.
- Bachelor's of Science degree in a related field, with eligibility to sit for the Medical Technologist exam within 12 months of hire.
- Obtain certification as a Medical Technologist within one year of becoming exam eligible.
- No prior experience required, but prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
- Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
- Eligibility for the ASCP or AMT Board of Certification, with certification within one year of becoming eligible.
- A competitive salary range of $24.13-$30.17 for Medical Technologists and $20.88-$26.10 for Medical Laboratory Technicians.
