Job Summary

The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Psychiatrist is a key member of our multidisciplinary team, providing compassionate and evidence-based care to children and adolescents in a fast-paced environment. As a specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, you will work closely with our team to provide high-quality care, including assessment, treatment, and disposition planning for patients with acute mental health crises.

Responsibilities
  • Provide treatment services, including assessment, medication management, and disposition of psychiatric patients, as well as making arrangements for hospitalization when necessary.
  • Conduct routine, intensive, complex, and emergency intakes and extended evaluations for a variety of emotional, psychological, and behavioral disorders.
  • Collaborate with advanced psychiatric nurse practitioners and provide oversight and guidance as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to agency policy and procedures, including emergency procedures.
  • Refer patients to appropriate programs and services as clinically indicated and communicate with nursing staff and Social Work to ensure referrals are completed.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives, including utilization management and program and patient outcomes.
  • Engage patients and families to develop treatment plans that address identified goals.
  • Document assessment findings, treatment recommendations, and plan for continuing care in the clinical record.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, other agency providers, clinical support staff, administrative staff, and community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Provide health promotion, education, and counseling for patients and families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues, and coping strategies.
  • Supervise resident and student cases, providing feedback on interview techniques, assessments, treatment plans, and documentation.
  • Manage inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients.
  • Utilize quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
  • Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
  • May provide care in an ambulatory clinic and C&L as needed.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Successful completion of a Psychiatry residency.
  • Fellowship trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry preferred.
  • CPI trained preferred.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT and must be maintained thereafter.
  • DEA with Controlled Substance required and must be maintained thereafter.
  • Board certification / Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry required.
  • BLS.
