Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Support Specialist to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in providing academic support services to our students, helping them to achieve their academic goals and succeed in their studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initial Intake and Assessment: Conduct initial intake and assessment of students' learning strengths and areas of development to make appropriate plans and referrals for academic support.
  • Academic Support Planning: Design and implement academic support plans for students based on assessed strengths and needs.
  • One-on-One Support: Work one-on-one with a caseload of students in the capacity of a Learning Coach, meeting with them on a regular basis to monitor academic progress.
  • Interpretation and Implementation: Interpret teacher interventions and classroom directions, and implement educational accommodations for students with documented learning disabilities.
  • Learning Style Inventories: Administer and use learning style inventories to plan a course of action for students seeking help.
  • Learning Experience Structure: Structure the learning experience so that students may better understand the course content.
  • Writing Support: Assist students in the writing process, pre-drafting, revising, and editing.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: Work with college faculty and other campus supports to implement educational accommodations for students with documented learning disabilities.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Software Skills: Become skilled in using the software (Computer Assisted Instruction).
  • Information Technology Integration: Help students integrate information technology within the given area.
  • Assistive Technology: When needed, use the Assistive Technology Center.
  • Resource Identification and Utilization: Be able to identify and use resources.
Training and Resource Support
  • Meetings and Workshops: Attend scheduled meetings or workshops.
  • Communication: Communicate with instructor on a regular basis to review tutorial services.
  • Resource Utilization: Communicate with other resources for assistance, such as ESL staff, as well as Math and Writing Coordinators.
  • Online Tutoring: Explore on-line tutoring as a resource.
  • Training and Certification: Be able to provide training in the area of expertise, according to CRLA Certification guidelines.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to work effectively and flexibly with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
