High-Acuity Cardiovascular Surgical Nurse

We are seeking a skilled and experienced High-Acuity Cardiovascular Surgical Nurse to join our team at Magnet Medical in Madison, Wisconsin.
About the Role:The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR), working closely with the surgical team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care before, during, and after cardiac procedures.
This is a 13-week contract position, requiring the nurse to work 36 hours per week on a 12-hour day shift schedule.
Key Responsibilities:- Preoperative Patient Preparation:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients prior to surgery, reviewing medical histories, allergies, and current medications.
- Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery, providing clear explanations and answering questions.
- Ensure all preoperative orders are completed, including labs, imaging, and medications, as prescribed by the surgical team.
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure using a surgical checklist to ensure patient safety.
- Intraoperative Nursing Care:
- Assist with the setup of the sterile field and ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are ready for use.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and blood gases during surgery.
- Administer medications (e.g., anesthetics, analgesics) and fluids as directed by the anesthesiologist or surgeon.
- Collaborate with the surgical team during complex cardiovascular procedures, such as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair/replacement, or other heart surgeries.
- Postoperative Care:
- Assist with the transfer of patients from the operating room to the recovery unit or intensive care unit (ICU), ensuring stable vitals and ongoing monitoring.
- Provide postoperative education to patients and families, including information on recovery, wound care, and activity restrictions.
- Administer pain management and other medications as prescribed to promote comfort and recovery.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in cardiovascular anatomy, surgical interventions, and high-acuity care in the operating room setting. They must be able to communicate effectively with the surgical team, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and prioritize patient safety and well-being.
A competitive salary is offered for this position, with pay based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week, plus a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
