General Overview
The Orange County Finance and Administrative Services Department is seeking an experienced Accounting Technician III. This role involves managing the financial transactions for all County departments, including accounts payable and receivable. Responsibilities include documenting deposits and supporting paperwork, processing garnishments, generating financial reports, and executing payments while also providing support for various accounting tasks.
Work is conducted under the guidance of the Financial Services Manager, allowing for independent decision-making within established protocols, local regulations, and North Carolina General Statutes relevant to local government financial operations. This position does not include supervisory duties but may involve leading specific assignments.
Background Check Requirement: A background check is mandatory for this position.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business, office administration, public administration, or a related discipline from an accredited institution; OR
an Associate's Degree in accounting, business, public administration, or a related field along with two (2) years of experience in accounts payable and/or accounts receivable; OR
High School diploma or GED equivalent combined with four (4) years of relevant work experience in accounts payable and/or accounts receivable; OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in local government or banking settings is preferred, as is familiarity with payroll processes.
Special Requirements
Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a valid North Carolina Driver License for the required vehicle or equipment operation.
Certification as a Notary Public must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Employment cannot commence until clearance is obtained.
Additional certifications may be required as determined by the Financial Services Manager.
