Safety Specialist I or II

At Great Southwestern Construction, Inc., we are seeking a highly skilled Safety Specialist I or II to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, clients, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct Site Visits: Perform ongoing site visits to observe and document safety behaviors and work conditions to ensure a safety focus throughout all phases of electric construction projects.
- Develop Safety Plans: Coordinate with Operations teams to create site-specific safety plans; actively participate in safety meetings to review job hazard analysis and hazard recognition tools.
- Support Client Requirements: Support client-specific safety requirements programs and ensure alignment and compliance between client expectations, company rules, and applicable safety regulations.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety.
- Coach and Mentor: Coach and mentor project site personnel regarding safety practices and behaviors on an ongoing basis.
- Conduct Safety Observations: Conduct proactive behavior-based and quality-focused field safety observations and PPE hazard assessments.
- Partner with Safety Teams: Partner with Safety, Safety Training & Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee trainings.
- Investigate Incidents: Conduct accident/injury investigations including root cause analyses.
- Support Incident Management: Provide support to Operations organization for incident case management and documentation steps.
- Follow-up on Corrective Actions: Follow-up with Operations organization to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents.
- Support Safety Committees: Support company safety committees by assisting in assessment of safety performance trends, implementing process, and tool improvements.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles is required for Level I, and minimum 5 years of experience is required for Level II.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. An undergraduate degree in Safety Management or related field is preferred for Level I, and an undergraduate degree in Occupational Safety & Health Management, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene or related technical field is preferred for Level II.
- Certifications: Minimum of one (1) safety certification is preferred, examples include: Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Compensation: Salary $73,000-$105,000 / year, commensurate with experience, paid weekly.
